Greater New Orleans In.c has commissioned a Comprehensive, Sustainable Integrated Water Management Strategy for St. Bernard Parish and the east banks of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes for storm water, flood control, water infrastructure, public rights of way, and other public properties. Derek Hoeferlin and Jane Wolff will be special advisors to the design team led by Waggonner & Ball Architects.

Derek Hoeferlin leads Fall 2010 Washington University in St. Louis architecture and urban design studio titled “Gutter to Gulf Goes Global: MIXOLOGY” to begin comparative delta and watershed research around the globe. The studio will assist his Sam Fox School Creative Activity Research Grant for documentary work in the Mekong, Mississippi and Rhine-Meuse watersheds.

NL-StL-NO Panel held on 3/2/10 at Washington University.
The panel featured Renée Jones-Bos, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United States, with additional presentations from both Dererk Hoeferlin and David Waggonner, FAIA, Principal of Waggonner & Ball Architects in New Orleans. The event also included responses by Dorothée Imbert (Chair Washington University Landscape Architecture Program) and Buzz Spector (Dean of Washington University’s School of Art).
The topic is water and its implications for design and infrastructure. Mainly the dialogue will focus on initiatives in the Netherlands and New Orleans, including Derek Hoeferlin’s New Orleans teaching titled “Gutter to Gulf.”
